--Feeling a bit off for probably no good reason. So am having some cucumbers to increase the vitamins in my system. And probably a pear and tea. Yes, I seem to eat like am at a poetry reading. Crackers, cut-up veggies and fruit and cheese.
--Had a killer anxiety dream yesterday that involved me taking a math test, and trying and trying to approach it logically, but failing miserably. And erasing and erasing and starting again. And time flying. Not hard to interpret the salient points of that dream. But I'd really like it if my subconscious left math out of my dreams. Really.
--Have been reading Don't You Forget about Me; writers muse about the John Hughes movies. I really wish it was slightly better than it was. It has the problem that most writing about pop culture does and collections have: some I really, really like and some I don't get why they bothered. And I have a feeling that the editor asked all of his friends to write an essay. Or so how it feels. And am peeved that these people have jobs. Not all in great places, but still. Yes, that would be my bitter and cynical moment du jour. Basically, it makes me want to watch the movies for the countless times. Have been having problems getting through the chapter in the Simpsons and Philosophy that determines whether Bart is Nietschean or not. Good premise, but it's the longest one so far and am not doing well with it. I have a good enough collection of these types of things, and the John Hughes one and the Prime Times one are the only ones I actually bought. The latter one seems also like he or she invited his or her friends to write essays as they were all from Bennington College, I think. Or most were.
--And I need somebody else to see Across the Universe for me and tell me if I should bother. A true Beatles fan. Because it reminds me of Tommy and that's not a good sign to begin with. And Julie Taymor, no... If it's going to make me cringe and so forth, I don't need to go through that. Robert Wilonsky (sp?) from the Village Voice, was way harsh and cool about it on Roeper and Ebert last Sunday. Am starting to crush on him for his snarky reviews.
--And I will see the Jane Austen Book Club likely. But, my main problem with it is as follows: the women who are playing the women are way too young. Like Kathy Baker who plays Bernadette is probably closer to the age of the characters in the book and Bernadette should probably still be a good 10 years older than she is. Maria Bello is way too young. But, it's got Amy Brenneman who I deeply love.
--And quasi-heresy. I kind of like the Vera Wang ads for Kohl's that uses Iggy Pop's "The Passenger." I really, really like that song. I think it's Iggy; it sounds like Iggy. The version I know is Siouxsie and the Banshees. Would like to know how pricey they are. And the new Target ads, too, where the women are in cool suit-dresses. Which I'm probably not describing right. You've either seen them or not.
