Notes. Really liked the Wonder Spot. It was sort of similar to parts of The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing, and there were parts I liked and want to think about more. And some good descriptions of New York. Am so happy to finish Holy Fools as it was so long and annoying. I was really disappointed by it and all that got me through was imagining John Malvovich as La Merle. The last 20 pages were good, but that's not enough. Am wondering if she was in a bad patch or it reveals a deeper problem in her writing style. If anyone knows, let me know. The Simpsons and Philsophy also could've been better as it was 3/4 philosophy and 1/4 Simpsons. And some of them seem to have been tweaked from someone's dissertation. But they had a few really good essays. The Frank Lloyd pictures of the stained-glass were really beautiful and I learned some stuff about his design style. But it wasn't too heavy or involved and pretty pictures.
The others are percolating nicely, though am not a big fan of Absolution of Murderr by Tremayne. It's a mystery set in Celtic Britain where Christianity has been accepted and they're fighting over the date of Easter. Haven't found a good medieval mystery out there yet. Maybe Umberto Eco's the Name of the Rose ruined me for other medieval mystery writers. Maybe it's not enough of a separation from the job, or I know too much. But there are ones I've found that have sucked mightily.
Okay, getting offline now. My fingers are hurting.
