In the words of Mary Catherine Gallagher, from SNL, my life as of late can be expressed by a Van Halen song used prominently in a John Cusack movie, Better Off Dead. And animated with sandwiches from the burger joint that Lane worked at.
(In retrospect, I am surprised that they actually have a Van Halen song on the soundtrack as 80s movies are notorious for getting no-name people on it because they couldn't afford the rights for the popular hits. Or if they do, they can only use one song. Which is why the 80s movies that they do in the 00s annoy me as they include all of the hits. And there was a lot of non-80s music in there. Case in point, the Better off Dead soundtrack: the only other vaguely recognizable 80s songs are Hall and Oates's "She's Gone,"and Howard Jones' "Like to Get to Know you Well." The other songs are either by unknown people or not 80s songs like Hendrix's "Foxy Lady," Sedaka's "Breaking up is hard to do" and Simon's "50 Ways to Leave your Lover." And apparently, it also has a Lou Reed song, "Street Hassle" sung by the Simple Minds, which I probably wouldn't have realized as I think the only Lou Reed song I knew at the time was "Take a Walk on the Wild Side.")
But yeah, it's been the couple of weeks whereby there's always something to be do. Bills to be paid, taxes to be paid, groceries to buy, laundry to do and so forth. Cupcakes to be made, which isn't all that urgent, but was tasty nonetheless. Haven't done the laundry yet. And okay, might've sent out coolish Easter thingies, but probably won't now. Also, it's getting to the stage where sending out chocolate is not a real good plan. :).
And apparently, it's also the week where I use movie quotes to express my feelings regarding my life, which is probably not just a weekly thing. But, on Tuesday, when I went into campus for reasons that are far too long to relate, I did in fact say the following to one of my colleagues: "In the words of Dante, from Clerks, "I'm not even supposed to be here today." It was true enough. and it was somewhat annoying as the stuff that I might've done had I known I was going to campus I didn't have with me. Or the stuff I was going to bring in. Not that these things were all that urgent anyway. But more chances for the clutter to leave my house.
And speaking of movies, if any of you see Grindhouse, particularly if you're female and/or have opinions that I trust, not knee-jerk Tarantino and Rodriguez fan-people, and think it's worth seeing, will you let me know? Because I ain't bothering otherwise. Am fed up with their interviews on the talk shows, particularly Tarantino. Rodriguez I also have issues with, but they are more recent, whereas Tarantino's have been present for a good ten years. Or, as I said to someone, "If I go see the movie, will you stop talking about it?" Which is the main problem with Tarantino for me. If that made any sense to anybody.
Well, it's probably late enough that I should go. And it's freezing in this coffee shop and they might start playing Red Hot Chillipeppers again. At the moment, it seems to be more Cure-like.
