As this strip captures much of my feelings regarding rockers covering pop standards, I thought I'd post a thought regarding it. I've given you the first one and you can go from there.
I was recently at Barnes and Nobles in the new mall. They've got a Paradise Bakery which is quite yummy and where I was having dinner. I'd been down at the DMV and thought I'd check out the new mall. I wandered down to B. and N. to see if they had any good half-priced calendars. They were playing Rod Stewart's "The Great American Songbook" where he covers, "The Way you Look Tonight." I have had issues with the man since the days of "If you think I'm Sexy" and "Some Guys have all the Luck." But at least he wasn't trying to be sensitive. Then he kept covering good songs by other people like Tom Waits's "Downtown Train," The Band's "Broken Arrow,"and Van Morrison's "Have I Told you Lately that I Love You?" Okay, I liked "Broken Arrow" against my better instincts. I actually asked the information girl if she knew how long the cd was going to go on. She looked at me blankly. I was considering leaving, but they changed it shortly thereafter.
